Engineering Contracting Company (ECC Contracting) has been recognised at the 16th Big Project Middle East Awards 2026, securing three distinguished accolades that underscore its leadership, sustainability, and knowledge-driven excellence in the construction sector.
Nidal Hassoun, General Director at ECC Contracting, was named Big Project’s Executive of the Year, celebrating his 36 years of dedication to delivering projects on schedule while pioneering sustainable modular construction methods. His recognition highlights ECC’s commitment to combining technical mastery with innovative construction approaches.
The company also received an Honourable Achievement for Sustainable Project of the Year for The Peninsula, Plot B, a high-rise residential development by Select Group. This landmark project featured over 10,340 DesertBoard PSB® palm strand boards, crafted from recycled palm fronds, effectively locking in more than 273 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent. ABANOS, ECC’s fit-out and joinery partner, utilized these boards to produce bespoke joinery elements, including fire-rated and non-fire-rated doors, wardrobes, and vanity units — demonstrating that sustainability and design excellence can coexist seamlessly in high-performance interiors.
Additionally, Amr Metwally, ECC Group QA/QC Manager, was honoured with an Honourable Achievement for Big Project’s Mentor of the Year, recognising his role in fostering ECC’s engineering culture. His efforts in expanding technical frameworks, implementing mentorship programs, and driving automation-led efficiencies have contributed to the continuous development of ECC’s talent pool.
